The title comes from limen, the Latin word for “threshold,” and refers to the experience of existing between one place, feeling, or state and another.

In this work, I use architectural perspective, layered color, and atmospheric depth to draw the viewer inward toward a space that remains intentionally unresolved. I am interested in that place between architecture and atmosphere, presence and memory, and the external world and our private interior experience.

Throughout Interior States, I use perspective as a means of introspection. The illusion of depth creates an entry point, but what exists beyond that threshold is left to the viewer. I want the painting to become more than something we simply look at; I want it to feel like a space we can enter and, perhaps, recognize something of ourselves within.

As a work of contemporary abstract art, Liminal explores how color, spatial depth, and architectural abstraction can create both a visual and psychological experience.
