The painting reminds me of a geode split open to reveal something unexpected—evidence of time, pressure and transformation hidden beneath a seemingly solid exterior.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"854\" data-start=\"417\" dir=\"auto\"\u003eThe fluid \u003cstrong data-end=\"486\" data-start=\"427\"\u003esoak-stained passages of deep blue, turquoise and green\u003c\/strong\u003e create movement through the composition, swirling and pooling as though something beneath the surface is still shifting. Against that fluidity, the more defined lines of ochre, gold, ivory and earth tones become stabilizing forces. They trace the forms like mineral deposits or geological strata, creating structure around areas that remain mysterious and unresolved.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1256\" data-start=\"856\" dir=\"auto\"\u003eI am interested in that tension between \u003cstrong data-end=\"922\" data-start=\"896\"\u003emovement and stability\u003c\/strong\u003e. Geologically, strata record what has happened over time: layers accumulate, pressure alters them, and traces of the past become embedded within the earth. Psychologically, I think we carry our own strata. Experiences, memories and emotions collect within us, shaping who we are even when they are no longer visible from the surface.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1684\" data-start=\"1258\" dir=\"auto\"\u003eAs part of my \u003cem data-end=\"1293\" data-start=\"1272\"\u003e\u003cstrong data-end=\"1292\" data-start=\"1273\"\u003eInterior States\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e collection, \u003cem data-end=\"1320\" data-start=\"1306\"\u003eStrata\u003c\/em\u003e explores the interior self through \u003cstrong data-end=\"1438\" data-start=\"1356\"\u003eorganic abstraction, layered color, soak-stain techniques and biomorphic forms\u003c\/strong\u003e. Rather than using the architectural perspective found in some works from the series, here I look to the architecture of nature itself. Earth becomes a metaphor for the self—strong and grounded, yet continually shaped by forces moving within it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1822\" data-start=\"1686\" dir=\"auto\"\u003eFor me, \u003cem data-end=\"1708\" data-start=\"1694\"\u003eStrata\u003c\/em\u003e is about \u003cstrong data-end=\"1822\" data-start=\"1718\"\u003ewhat we accumulate, what we withstand, and the unseen layers that quietly become part of who we are.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"M.
