Red and orange carry an almost bodily energy for me: passion, attraction, longing and the sensation of something burning beneath the surface. Yet as the architectural planes move inward, that intensity gives way to a softer and more romantic center.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1041\" data-start=\"626\" dir=\"auto\"\u003eThe center of the painting reminds me of the atmosphere of \u003cstrong data-end=\"704\" data-start=\"685\"\u003eRococo painting\u003c\/strong\u003e—lush, intimate and almost dreamlike. Blush pinks, creamy passages and gestural marks seem to dissolve into one another, creating a romantic interior contained within the stronger geometry surrounding it. I love the tension between those two languages: the structure of the outer space and the vulnerability and abandon of what it holds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1373\" data-start=\"1043\" dir=\"auto\"\u003eThat contrast is central to my \u003cem data-end=\"1095\" data-start=\"1074\"\u003e\u003cstrong data-end=\"1094\" data-start=\"1075\"\u003eInterior States\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e collection. I use \u003cstrong data-end=\"1181\" data-start=\"1114\"\u003earchitectural perspective, saturated color and abstract gesture\u003c\/strong\u003e to create spaces that can be read both physically and psychologically. The perspective draws us toward an interior, but what we encounter there isn't a literal room. It is an emotional state.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1585\" data-start=\"1375\" dir=\"auto\"\u003eIn \u003cem data-end=\"1390\" data-start=\"1378\"\u003eUnrequited\u003c\/em\u003e, that state is longing. The painting holds the heat, beauty and contradiction of desire—the experience of carrying something intensely within ourselves that may never fully find its way outward.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1705\" data-start=\"1587\" dir=\"auto\"\u003e\u003cstrong data-end=\"1705\" data-start=\"1587\"\u003eFor me, \u003cem data-end=\"1609\" data-start=\"1597\"\u003eUnrequited\u003c\/em\u003e is a room built around a feeling: passion contained, romanticized and held just beyond reach.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"M.
